Window Replacements
A window was replaced on the 6th floor on 10 December 2024.
Abseilers were used, and the newly installed window is pictured above.
Another window was replaced on the 6th floor in a different flat on 10 December 2024.
Abseilers were used, and the newly installed window is pictured above.
It is clearly of a different design from the original.
Some windows were replaced on the 8th floor on 3 October 2024.
They were in bad condition - especially the box frames.
Here are the newly installed replacement windows.
Note that they extend further forward on the concrete sill than the original windows.
The windows on the Alderney Street side were replaced without use of scaffolding.
No internal redecoration was needed after installation.
The final result (from inside) is shown below.
The windows are timber and are designed to last in excess of sixty years. There is a detailed schedule of care and maintenance that includes twice yearly cleaning of frames and windows, weatherseals and ventilators, as well as repairing localised coating damages. It recommends that designated proprietary products be used. It also recommends that sashes be removed when repainting.

NOTE: These windows are not necessarily the ones to be installed as replacements in the major works - a decision has yet to be made.
